I lived in downtown Calgary, two blocks off Stephen Ave. until seven months ago. I was subject to yelling, music, screeching tires, and loud motors every night all year long. Sunday's were particularly bad from GRETA. Having said that, one has to expect such noise living in the area. The Stampede is once a year for a limited time that showcases the city internationally during our short summers. Canada is a much diminished county that will never recover. Do wokesters really need to squeeze as much joy as possible out of these events so we can be miserable as them?

So here's a different perspective from someone who lived in Eau Claire for a decade and thankfully no longer does. The noise and disruption from some of these music festivals - be it the Stampede, Folk Festival, Heritage Days, Caribbean festival, etc., was pretty much constant throughout the summer months. We have a city that encourages "densification" to make the downtown a more livable place, to lower traffic by encouraging people to live closer to work and walk not drive, and to make the downtown a place where people live and not just work. Then they turn around and give carte blanche to anyone who wants to have a big noisy event. No limits on noise levels, no limits on hours of operation, no policing. So there's hookers strolling the streets everywhere, drunks everywhere, people peeing up against buildings, people vomiting on sidewalks, garbage everywhere. It makes downtown unsafe and disgusting. And for what? So some wheelers and dealers can make big money and the city can make a few extra bucks. Now maybe these new restrictions went too far too fast. But something needed to be don to reign in the chaos. And here's a question for all those people who trashing the new law: would you want these unrestricted events held in your neighborhood? I think not!
