A transgender father, Alice Michael Attwood, has been sentenced to only five years in prison by an Alberta provincial court judge for the brutal stabbing of his two young children, one of whom suffered a severed esophagus.
In the ruling, Justice J. Sihra emphasized that the five-year sentence was to serve as a “deterrence” due to “the gravity of the offences.”
“A clarion call of deterrence and denunciation is required in this case due to the gravity of the offences and the aggravating factors,” said Sihra when passing the five-year sentence.
The attack happened in 2025, late at night, inside the children’s bedrooms.
Atwood was released shortly after the attack and has been vlogging on social media as a self-described “genderfluid queerdo”, including about transgender issues.
The attack sparked outrage, including from Grand Prairie Conservative MP Chris Warkentin.
“The Carney-Trudeau Liberals’ disastrous catch-and-release policies have made Canadians unsafe,” said Warkentin in a written statement.
“Two days later, Attwood was free to return home and livestream himself playing video games on his YouTube channel while one of the children faces months on a feeding tube, and the remainder of the family must try to find ways to ensure their children’s safety,” he continued.
“This is unacceptable. Monsters like Alice Michael Attwood should not be allowed to roam around our streets just two days after stabbing two children.”
Attwood used a serrated kitchen knife to stab the eight-year-old daughter in the neck, cutting through her esophagus and causing injuries so severe that they were life-threatening and required emergency surgery.
The seven-year-old son also suffered injuries during the incident. After the stabbing, Attwood cleaned the knife and called 911.
The court noted that the crimes completely shattered the children’s feeling of safety and were a betrayal of the deep trust a child places in a parent.
A mental health expert found no proof of a severe mental illness that would excuse Attwood’s actions.
“Although the accused’s gender identity may have been an additional source of stress. There is no evidence that it triggered mental health issues so acute as to diminish moral culpability,” said Sihra in the ruling.
Although there were signs of personality problems and emotional trouble, the court decided Attwood knew exactly what was happening and was still to be held responsible for the crime.
The judge also pointed out that Attwood’s regular use of cannabis might have played a role in the behavior but did not excuse it.

5 years for attempted murder of his own two young children. Likely out in 2 years. Utterly despicable work on the part of the Crown and the judge.
Any Liberals out there who want to step forward and try to defend this? Oh, right. They didn't see this on CBC or CTV, so it didn't happen.
5 years ? What a joke of a sentence for the freak .
