Politics is a blood sport. Winner take all. Law should be changed so that there is still a semblance of democracy. MP’s who want to cross the floor should all, regardless of party affiliation, face a vote from constituents in a new by-election called within two months of the floor crossing. Effectively, the MP resigns to run again for the other party, whose support for the by-election he/she should get.
There should be a law or something put forward that when a person is voted in they are not able to switch to another party that they have not run under. This is not a team sport where anyone can switch teams because of money or thinking they will be on a winning team. This is a democratic process that should set in stone unless there is illegal actions that have been used in the counting of votes. Sadly I am writing from BC and we are stuck with what we have and no sign of change here.
