Put it down to his home province or his obsession with workers in general, or both, but I can still remember opinions expressed by Ed Broadbent during the 1980 election campaign. In Eastern Canada Broadbent did not hesitate to say that Ontario industry needed cheap Alberta oil to thrive. When Broabent visited the Prairies he somehow developed bad cases of amnesia and dysphasia.

Quebec doesn't have the money to separate from Canada unless they want to have higher taxes and lower income per household. Alberta does have the money and their income per household would go up. I've lived in Alberta; they are a very independent people with their own way of thinking. Very different from the east. I have no problem believing that they will separate and be a successful country.
