Former NDP leader Jagmeet Singh was called out by world-renowned rapper Drake for attending a Kendrick Lamar concert in Toronto.
In response, Singh offered an apology to Drake and his fans, claiming he did not attend the concert to watch Lamar.
Last week, Lamar brought his Grand National Tour to Toronto’s Rogers Centre for the first time since his explosive public feud with Drake in 2024, where the rappers went back and forth releasing disrespectful songs about one another, increasing in severity with each subsequent single.
The feud propelled Lamar’s fame to new highs after he released the song “Not Like Us,” in which he accused Drake and some of his colleagues of being “certified pedophiles,” an unfounded allegation. Lamar performed the song at the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show.
Singh was spotted and photographed at Lamar’s concert in the standing section. The pictures went viral on social media.
In response, Aubrey Grahah, who is known by his stage name, Drake, reached out to Singh on Instagram with the message “you’re a goof,” posting a screenshot of the message on his Instagram story. The screenshot also shows that Singh reached out to Drake in 2019, thanking the rapper for following him, though Drake did not respond.
After receiving backlash for attending last Friday’s concert, Singh posted an apology on Instagram. He claimed he was not there to see Lamar, but the other headliner, R&B singer SZA.
“I went for SZA, not Kendrick. I was born in this city. I love this city,” said Singh, presumably referring to Toronto.
“But real talk, I get it. I shouldn’t have gone at all.”
Drake has collaborated with SZA on hit songs like “Slime You Out” and “Rich Baby Daddy.” However, SZA is also close with Lamar. She appeared at his Super Bowl halftime show and toured with him across the world.
Singh then thanked Drake and his brand OVO for their contributions to Toronto and the Canadian music scene, reiterating his apology.
“OVO and Drake have lifted up this city and ,” said Singh. “For me, it’ll always be Drake over Kendrick.”
In his last years as NDP leader, Singh had become remarkably unpopular with the Canadian public, leading his party to its worst showing in its history with only 6.3 per cent of the vote and seven seats in the House of Commons.
This was despite Singh’s consistent effort to market himself and his party towards younger Canadians by appearing on Twitch live streams, making TikTok videos, and fraternizing with the socialist American congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
On election night, Singh was defeated in the riding of Burnaby Central and resigned the leadership of the NDP.
Singh is the single biggest reason that Traideau was able to destroy country, rob us blind & used MAID to have many innocent tax paying victims murdered, Singh is far worse than just a goof, he is a SATANIC backstabbing TRAITOR & should be in prison until dead...!!!
If his life is in danger why go to a concert where it would be hard for the police to protect him? Did he pay for the police to have tickets so they could be with him?
