They make me laugh. I would suggest that they listen to the actual people who put them into the positions they’re in. A lot of natives are voting for separation and that’s a fact. These chiefs are just doing the dirty business of the federal government, is what’s going on. Don’t kid yourself, a lot of money is involved here. That is what they are thinking about. Also, do they honestly think that with the heavy influx of immigrants we’ve had into Canada by the very government they seem to support that it won’t be long before the Canadian Indians are marginalized? These people should’ve been off reserves and assimilated with the rest of society a long time ago.

How about "these people" having the right not to submit to assimilation? Read the Canadian Charter on Rights and Freedoms.

Gary's avatar

No problem do not assimilate, live in the traditional manner. Live off the land and roam free but not at the expense of the rest of us. Lastly, keep in mind you either evolve or die - history has proved that over and over - Mother Nature can be nasty.

How about they earn their own money and jobs . Pay taxes like everyone else if they come off the reserve . Do you ever come out of your basement . We have spent trillions on them .

It's time the "Queen's children" graduate to full adulthood. Start the process of independence from the white man. The reserve system and the Indian Act have done NOTHING to bring the majority out of poverty and dysfunction. The only ones that benefit are the chiefs. A majority of the rank and file support sovereignty for Alberta - that should tell you everything you need to know.

The chiefs fear the end of whitey's free gravy train and their exhalted status as more than equal to the Canadians who have to pay for this racist gravy train.

These so called chiefs forgot who they work for, and who feeds them. I think it's time to cut them off welfare. Let them get a job, and earn their own living. They've by far been over paid for their loss of stomping ground. Of which they never had any land title to.

There are more than 50,000 Indigenous-owned businesses in Canada. These enterprises—spanning First Nations, Métis, and Inuit entrepreneurs—contribute an estimated $31 billion to $48.9 billion annually to the Canadian economy.

Meanwhile, back in the urban reservations (cities) for non-indigenous people, almost 2 million non-Indigenous Canadians rely on social assistance. How about non-native welfare recipients getting a job?

A friend of mine had a business in Ottawa. He paid his workers well above minimum wage but due to financial circumstances two of them were compelled to quit - because they could make more money on welfare. This is the kind of thing that happens in a Nanny State.

You just proved my point. They can support themselves, A few have. But the rest don't intend to, as they have about or six generations of welfare. And now we have the hindrance of mass immigration to feed. No other country ever gave the people they took over a country from was given generations of billions in treaty money. The defeated just became a part of the new country. It's called assimilate and shut up. That's what we're getting right now from the carnage government. We are being assimilated by the UN wef. We can either fight it or shut up and assimilate.

Harold B.'s avatar

Apples to oranges . Lucky if that covers a portion of what they get from the government . We won't mention all the lost businesses and jobs they have caused due to protests .

Vic d'Obrenan's avatar

Holy Crap, Ann. AND they don't pay taxes on that money? Not only do they not pay taxes, but we GIVE them money. If what you say is true, it's more than time to stop the suicidal empathy and get them all out working and paying their way in society- why the double standard? Time to stop it!!

I think someone needs to calculate how much money over the years, that natives have received, and what has been done with the money, and is there an end in sight? Because, personally, I am tired of donating to this bottomless pit. I know that so.e bands have done very well, and should be taken off the taxpayers donation list. At some point there needs to be an end of this taxpayers charity. It is not healthy.

Trudeau and Freeland and Karney should be in jail for treason the fact that they are not shows how corrupt and paid off the RCMP and corrupt judges are in this sick country

Herb DeMars's avatar

Two words for this sorry bunch - audit them! They live like kings while their lessor band members lead a difficult life at best on the reserve. Time to end that and work with a sovereign Alberta!

the first nations chiefs forget. we conquered them they lost we won. We do not need their permission to separate. They’re just so full of their own bullshit that they can’t even see past their own shit colored eyes.

Harold's avatar

"We", the public, didn't win a fucking thing. "We" are just as "conquered", just as enslaved as those who call themselves the "first nation".

The government derives it's power by the consent of the people - the governed; the people do not need permission to separate, or to tear down the current government and start over from scratch, whether it be municipal, provincial, or federal.

As someone who has now been directly victimized by "Untruth and Reconciliation" I daresay that the first nations are doing their cause grave harm and setting their relationship with Canadians back immensely.

My experience is that many first nation people are extremely ashamed of their culture. The rest are scamming Canada for continuing welfare. Chretien's white paper was right to call for privation and elimination of reservation land and the Indian Act. It was the first nations that opposed doing so. Land claims need to be extinguished in law and the first nations need to be treated equally with all Canadians since that is in fact the truth-- we are all Canadians.

I am tired of being accused of something that happened in the past. Let's move on.

Those liberal eagle feathers don’t want the bucks to stop

Full stop

Maggie's avatar

This separation of Alberta does not affect the natives money train, who is really behind this?? What have the Liberals done to Canadians?? No free speech, lockdowns, plus our country is broke for generations. Disgraceful

Gary's avatar

The aboriginal elders who made this allegation, shame themselves and their society. They are probably the same elders who promote and encourage those subversive policies of the UN regarding Canadian aboriginal nation and support the fictional genocide of aboriginals. Tell me what is the "WORD" that describes these activities and the elders who support them?

The native Chiefs and the Canadian politician Chiefs are living in style dividing us it’s about time the citizens of both chief got together and called their bullshit

Barbara Cook's avatar

We know what they were given as rights for giving up land, so to speak, but living on reservations has hardly served them well at all. Their reservations are full of poverty because the Chiefs and band councils keep the money for themselves. Where is the clean water? They have been paid billions. Don’t kid yourself by acting all know it all. I have first hand knowledge of how things are on reserves. I have a sister-in-law who is a Treaty Indian. The ones that have done well for themselves live OFF reserves, including my nephews. They are well integrated with the rest of society.

It's all about fear that the unrestrained unaudited gravy ($$$) could be threatened.

Maplebayman's avatar

Oh them chief guys, they scared s....less that the gravy train might run out.

Although my family is Sixth nations, I am tired of the divisiveness and lies that are the constant drum beat of those in first nation communities who are given air time. They have no interest in truth or reconciliation, and should actually be investigated for fraud, and, in combination with the feds jointly charged for theft of tax dollars from the Canadian people. If there is treason taking place, natives need to look no further than their leadership, and the Lieberal government led by the Crime Minister.

These First Nations groups are not used to politicians saying no to them or refusing to bend to their every demand. They have been well trained by Trudeau, Eby, and now Carney. This extortion needs to end. Canadians are tired of being held hostage. This kind of language undermines any credible commitment to truth and reconciliation.
