Alberta Premier Danielle Smith received multiple standing ovations and cheers from a packed room at a Conservative movement networking conference after listing several successes of her government, including “putting an end to the era of wokeism.”
During her keynote address, Smith said her government proves conservative values in government can improve people’s lives, adding that leading by example can help Conservatives win federally.
“Conservative ideas work. They deliver for families. They create opportunities for businesses and they build stronger, more secure countries for all of us,” She said. “The question today isn’t what we believe, it’s how we can win. How we earn the opportunity to put our conservative values into action so that we can make life better for everyday people in a world.”that is growing more uncertain and, of course, more volatile by the day.”
She said a “decade of woke left-wing anti-development policies, such as soft on crime laws, safe supply drugs, mass immigration policies, have devastated Canada, by letting criminals out into communities, worsened addiction, and strained social services, housing and contributed to a youth unemployment crisis.”
Smith also added that “eco extremism” has hindered Alberta and Canada’s ability to supply energy to its friends and allies.
“There is a reason why we refer to the last 10 years as Canada’s lost decade. Where I come from, in Alberta, we do things a little bit differently. We built a rock-solid economic foundation grounded in conservative principles, one that is helping us to weather global economic uncertainty and to help people succeed,” she said. “We’re staying true to the ideas that have always made Alberta a beacon of hope and opportunity,”
Smith listed a wide range of successes for her UCP government, including cutting corporate income taxes, achieving the lowest combined federal-provincial tax rate in Canada and reducing red tape. She also highlighted massive savings for businesses, leading the country in economic growth and building nearly a quarter of all new homes constructed in Canada in 2025.
The crowd erupted in cheers, however, when Smith said: “In Alberta, we are also putting an end to the era of wokeism.”
She noted the United Conservative government in Alberta introduced the Peterson Law, which “creates principles of neutrality” that prohibit regulatory bodies from punishing individuals based on their personally held beliefs — the crowd once again cheered.
The crowd cheered when Smith said her government introduced Bill 25 to remove politics and ideology from classrooms.
“Schools should be places of learning, where two students are taught how to think, not what to think, and where diverse viewpoints are presented fairly and without bias,” she said. “We also passed legislation to ensure that children do not undergo medical, hormonal or surgical interventions to change their gender.”
She also highlighted policies such as banning biological males from women’s and girls’ sports, removing sexually explicit graphic content from school libraries and rejecting tax-funded “safe supply” programs that provide drugs to addicts.
Smith also said her government introduced legislation to ban euthanasia for those under 18 and ensure it is never used in cases where mental illness is the sole criterion for accessing the program.
Smith also declared that she will continue to protect and fight for gun rights in her province.
This is the difference that conservative leadership makes, and it’s proof that when you get the fundamentals right and stay true to conservative values, the results will follow,” Smith added. “ The truth is, we’re doing something right, and people are noticing we will stay focused on results, focused on opportunity and focused on making life better for every single person who calls our beautiful province home.”
She rallied the room, saying Alberta’s approach is how conservatives across the country should aim to win.
“This is how conservatives win, by putting our principles into action and showing people that our ideas work to make people’s lives better. Stay true to that and keep on delivering real results,” Smith said. “We won’t just win in Alberta, we will win across the country, because our politics don’t just win elections. They build stronger provinces, a stronger country and a better future for everyone, and together, we can ensure that Canada remains forever strong and free.”
