A Regina mosque hosted Indigenous elders and community members for a ‘Truth and Reconciliation’ event intended to “educate [its] members.” Its public relations spokesman, Madeeh Rehman, told CTV News the gathering followed the discovery of “so many of the mass graves.”
“We’ve held this program not only to educate our members but also to offer our friendship to the Indigenous communities here in Regina,” he said.
CTV reported that the mosque invited visitors to learn about Indigenous history. Rehman said the event would teach people about “horrors of residential school” and “what happened through colonization and things like that.”
“I’m hoping that everyone here comes in and learning something new,” he said.
In May 2021, Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc announced what it called “the confirmation of the remains of 215 children” at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School.
The announcement followed a preliminary ground-penetrating radar survey. Specialist Sarah Beaulieu later reported 200 “targets of interest” and said excavation would be needed to confirm whether they were burials.
As of February 2026, investigation was still under way, with the excavation still pending.
Chief Rosanne Casimir told a Senate committee in March that investigators still needed access to school and church records to identify children and notify families.
“The truth cannot be confirmed,” she said in that context. “Truth takes time.”
Ottawa committed $246.8 million across 161 agreements for searches, including $12.2 million for Tk’emlúps.
Despite the persistent claim that mass graves were discovered at former residential schools, no human remains have been publicly identified in a mass grave anywhere in Canada.
While some unmarked graves have been found, none have been established as mass graves.
During the 2025 federal election, CBC political correspondent Rosemary Barton said remains of Indigenous children had been found “in various places across the country.” CBC subsequently corrected that statement.
The Globe and Mail has also confirmed that there has been no public confirmation of human remains at Kamloops and acknowledged that early media reports, including its own, had treated the discovery of “mass graves” as established fact.
Rehman has also moderated interfaith programmes at Regina’s Mahmood Mosque which included representatives of faith groups, the Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan and the Regina School Board among guests.

Former PM Stephen Harper apologized and paid out roughly 5 billion, or half of the total before he left office in 2015. The government will never be able to pay off enough to fill the black hole of the guilt/extortion tax, I mean reconciliation, regarding land claims or any other issue when there is free money to be made. It will persist long after a single participant is alive who lived from the colonization and inception of this country to the residential school closures in 1996-97.
