Alberta NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi has written an open letter to the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, requesting an investigation into alleged foreign interference in Alberta’s independence movement, despite prior reports that indicate the RCMP did not find any information to indicate foreign interference.
The letter, addressed earlier this week to CSIS Director Daniel Rogers, asks the agency to provide public updates on its risk assessment ahead of Alberta’s planned referendum.
“The referendum will occur under the very real environment of foreign interference with the intended purpose of stoking separatist sentiment to harm social cohesion, foment polarization and ultimately harm our country,” reads the letter.
Nenshi cited a study published by DisinfoWatch last month, which alleged that unaffiliated actors from both Russia and the U.S. were using YouTube accounts and AI to spread “disinformation.” It also alleged foreign interference regarding the leak of the province’s electoral list.
“This separatist referendum runs a very real risk of foreign interference,” wrote Nenshi on Friday. “We now know that Albertans’ personal information has been exposed to American actors, and the separatists have been looking for support and money from the Trump administration.”
Meanwhile, Alberta Public Safety Minister Mike Ellis said the RCMP assured him that they hadn’t received any credible information “to suggest that the Alberta separatist movement has been subject to foreign interference.”
“However, I have also said, Mr. Speaker, the situation is extremely fluid, and due to the new allegations that have been made regarding Elections Alberta’s information breach, I hope the RCMP thoroughly look into this matter,” said Ellis last month.
Nenshi went on to claim Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has failed to intervene in response to suspicions of foreign interference in the movement.
“That’s why I have written to CSIS asking for transparency, regular updates, and a clear assessment of the dangers we face,” Nenshi wrote. “Danielle Smith doesn’t care about protecting you. Alberta’s New Democrats do.”

Fuck you Nenshi. Being a gay Muslim is an oxymoron. You almost bankrupted Calgary.
That busybody TeleTubby should stay in his own lane.
