In1986 on a South Pacific vacation, native Fijians befriended me and were quite adamant I stay with them. For safety reasons, chlorine is color coded. What showed up was the wrong color, and despite pushback, water staff were directed to use it because they had secured such a good price. It's clear there were kickbacks involved, but the real crime was the unknown chemical in the barrels that the entire base, including visiting navy's from around the world, were exposed to.
