When in the history of the world has a conquered people been given so much privilege while contributing so little to the country?

The French in Quebec....

I resent this comment.

If you are Canadian today, it's first due to French Canadians, for better or for worse. If you'd prefer to be American, then you can blame them, work for annexation to US, or move south (the easiest way).

"French Canadians had a mixed role during the American War of Independence; some supported the American cause, while many remained loyal to the British. The British government had won the loyalty of many French Canadians by allowing them to practice their Catholic faith and retaining French civil law, which influenced their decision to not join the American revolutionaries." It was a very small portion who supported the American cause and mostly young men who fought with them.

"French Canadians played a crucial role in the War of 1812 by participating in colonial militia units, such as the Voltigeurs Canadiens, which were essential for the defense of Lower Canada against American invasions. Their local knowledge and mobilization efforts helped to counter the American military threats despite the lack of regular British troops". There had been no more invasion attempts since.

I understand that if you are from the West you see only transfer payments going to Québec and I do not blame you for feeling the way you do; and I understand fully the Albertans (maybe others) wanting to go their own way and stop the economic hemorrhage and attempts at keeping them a resource colony. However the fault does not belong only to Québec, blame also the federal government policies who is milking Alberta and the West and keeping them as low and powerless as it can. I do admire Danielle Smith and Scot Moe and wish them much success in resisting British Empire colonialism and maybe separate. If I were younger, I would consider moving to Alberta.

Well Andree. Sorry about your resentment but the British beat France at the Battle of Quebec, (September 13, 1759). Time passed and politicians continued to give Quebec whatever they wanted including the FLQ, Insane Equalization payments, and let us never forget bilingualism throughout Canada.

What did Quebec do with their most favoured status? The Quebec referendum of 1995 explains that question. A Spoiled and Entitled language/culture/and country divider.

Divisive is what Quebec has been. You may not know it but if Quebec attempts another separation referendum, Western Canada will vote for them to go. quebec is nothing more than an expensive voting block.

Ya, the French helped. Helped themselves. Most French were against the British! The English. They still are that's why Canada is so fu€ked up. Merci that! The Indian tribes play a role both ways. They are not one'. They brutally raked and pillaged each other and the only thing white man did was add guns n booze to the fire'. We live socially with alcohol in our society and we can't be blamed fo to their lack of control, so don't go there. They are a conquered nation on one or the other side but lack of commitment to anyone but themselves had made them what they are today. Like Quebecers, self centred greedy. But not you, you're a libtard. How many dogs have you rescued?

Taxpayers also recently forked out BILLION$ to hundreds of thousands of indigenous members $300,000 EACH for "reconciliation"..Alberta has helped in your building and running you own oil infrastructure....and you turn around..and kick us in the nuts??!!..FUCK YOU!!...(you guys aren't even aware that the CCP has also infiltrated most of your very own corrupt councils that have screwed your people out of millon$ for years..)

Also Don, I don't believe this particular Cree group is a representation of all the first nations in Alberta. I'm 78, and old enough to know of a lot of the happenings in that reserve. They have always been trouble makers. Done a millions of damage in the past. But it's only selection of a few that make a bad name for the rest.

Due to liberal slackness in applying the law as it is written and intended re natives and reserves, natives have this false impression they still own the land. They do not. They are residing on land belonging to the province or the federal government, namely “crown land.” Also, land acknowledgements do not help in clarifying that reality, something more and more people are pointing out and refuse to participate in.

Expand full comment
{Logan} Untitled's avatar

In my recollection, they never owned the land. They were gypsies roaming the country after they migrated here. Let them show their original land title if they think they are right. Like the school claim of murdered children, where is the evidence?

We will never see the evidence. The federal government hands out billions without making them accountable.

Your recollection is correct. They didn’t have a concept of land ownership and never “owned” land. They just occupied it.

Also, natives do not even own the land their reserves sit on. That is crown land. The only natives that own land are the ones who moved off reserve and who bought property for themselves.

Do we have go back to the beginning of time to correct all of these issues? Regimes have come and gone, people and countries have been in conflicts time immemorial, where do you draw the line and sit down and reach an equitable conclusion before all hell breaks loose! The Cowichan decision by the Government of B.C. is a prime example of disenfranchising the population and sowing fear into the people and is now causing a movement country wide to take back what is considered stolen property. It all falls on the federal and provincial governments to step up and do their jobs instead of hiding behind liberal judges' decisions and saying to us, this is what the courts have ruled. So at this point in time with Pri minister using the smoke screen of Trump Bad, we are being gas lighted.

FN leaders are grifters. Abolish the Indian Act and throw their destructive lawsuits out of court before they destroy Canada. We cannot afford to keep paying multi-billion dollar settlements out to a group of just 1 million status Indians. It’s insane. If there were true leaders in parliament this would not be happening.
