A new study analyzing tobacco markets in 11 different countries found that over a third of cigarette consumption in Canada was of illicit tobacco, representing over $2 billion in lost tax revenue.
Well, who can blame the smokers if they can get a break in the cost of cigarettes. No, I do not like smoking, but I myself sin by eating chips from time to time. I also have a drink from time to time. Taxing cigarettes to that extent is simply robbery. And they feel they have the moral imperative to justify the THEFT. All they have to do is convince the rest of society that they are TRYING TO HELP, cloak their superior knowledge and care in compassion and they now have the right to tell YOU how to live. If you do not follow THEIR prescription YOU WILL BE PUNISHED.
Well if the gov was not charging 20 bucks a pack vs 4 bucks maybe this would not be happening, so they say organized crime, so they are calling the Natives organized crime, hmmm.
I would consider the government organized crime, since they have an enforcement arm and a promotional arm, But they are really not that well organized.
Good, the way that smokers are ridden is obscene compared to the extent they ride drug and alcohol addicts. If the state considers addiction a mental illness then they are rapaciously taking advantage of people with mental illness. The government is a drug dealing parasite that has absolutely monopolized as they have done historically. They did the same to cane sugar, salt, opium. They do the same with fuel and energy, property ownership. And now instead of offering the health care services you thought people were going to get after taxing the hell out of people, you get offered maid papers.
Never having taken up this addictive habit myself, while I was a young kid watching my dad chain smoke himself to death, I really couldn't give a damn about "lost tax revenue due to the illicit sale of black market cigarettes."
The reason for smokers buying contraband cigarettes in the first place is because of the tax!
And don't tell me that it's "lost revenue" that could benefit the citizens of Canada. Governments are poor stewards of public funds, especially the Federal Liberals. If they were more accountable for what they spend we wouldn't have a deficit! RM
And who is responsible for contraband tobacco? First Nations Reservations, but the government encourages and condones even though it's bad for your health and banned everywhere else. I'm tired of double standards in this country.
There is "1st" nations cannibis shop within 5 minutes from my home in Nepean (Ottawa) and their big advertisement is hi potency cannibis tax free, cash sales only. They've been there now for almost a year
Although not a user, it is a well-known fact that the cannabis supplied by the 1st nations is healthier. It does not have the poisonous, addictive chemicals added to it the same way the G-Parasites have modified their tax-grabbing cannabis. If the g-parasites are so concerned about health, how come the g-parasites have said nothing about the products "Coke and Pepsi" which have tons of sugar and other addictive chemicals added, which contribute hugely to diabetes and other diseases?????
Of course she should care. Alberta's revenue goes to the feds and then gets redistributed to the provinces as transfer payments. Without Alberta, we'd be bankrupt.
So Hilarious!!! LOL! The corrupt communist liberal-ndp government mafia (g-parasites) is upset that the organized crime mafia is stealing funds that they (the g-parasites) could use for the corrupt Ukrainian money laundering scheme or to finance their European Banker friends...LOLOL! This can't get any stupider!!!
This is pretty funny, and a reminder that native land claims are an issue on which lawyers bill and build careers. Natives do not expect to be “given back their land rights.” They live on reserves, or integrate.
Native reserves have long been the sites for illegal trade, of cigarettes and drugs and gas, usually by the sons of chiefs, because, well, hierarchy!
It is NOT lost tax revenue, they have wanted people to quit forever so, really it is just as if a lot of people quit, they must now go after the vapes & weed just as hard and see what those outcomes reveal. They are hypocrites, they want the money but if people make different choices they get mad, what about leaving oil & gas in the ground to "save" the climate and all that money lost where they going to replace it with? Maybe they should have thought of it before....
I am surprised it's only a 1/3. In Eastern Ont reserve smokes from Cornwall reserve are so so common. Distributors buy them and resell them by multiple gross all tax free.
I honestly could believe that indeed. Where I live we use to have many people smoking, but a lot of them have quit and some have gone to the e-cigarette or vaping

A better way of looking at this is Canadian consumers saved over 2 billion in taxes.

100% the gov are the criminals.

I used to buy contraband smokes but I now live in Mexico where they’re 30 cents a pack.

I am in Vanier (Ottawa), and there is a similar shop around five minutes' walk from my home.
Good! Smith was complaining about it too. Why should she care? It’s federal taxes, not Alberta’s.

There are provincial taxes on tobacco as well.

So they are complaining on not making taxes on cigarettes but literally tax us on everything 🙄

Anyone who lives near a reserve knows this.

Meanwhile, the so-called government has sent $6.7 billion in weapons and money to Ukraine and Izra Hell.
"$2 billion in lost revenue"....$2 billion that won't get sent to Ukraine or some other country! lol
