In an “ask me anything” thread on Reddit, Calgary mayoral candidate Jeromy Farkas advocated for “hate-tracking programs,” opposed Alberta’s efforts to enforce its ban on child gender transitions.
Okay, I’ve said for a while that this guy gives me the creeps, now I know why. We all need to get behind Sonya Sharp and her group of conservative thinkers.
Even though he has always been a little too socially left for me, I supported Farkas the last time because he was fiscally conservative, and he stayed in the municipal lane of streets, water & wastewater, garbage collection, instead of veering off into grandiose dreams. But it seems his time in the political wilderness has resulted in a move to left--in some instances far left, such as his support for gender-bending--so he has lost my vote and gained my opposition.
The last thing any municipal council in this province needs is more LGBTQ2S+ supporters. Let these people keep their bedroom lives in the bedroom as heterosexual do. And bike lanes are ridiculous in cities with 6 months if winter and where only a very small percentage of the population uses them. Put the bikes back in general traffic. I used to ride a bike to and from work in Edmonton decades ago. I gave it up when an accident showed me how dangerous this could be. If bike riders don't feel safe riding on open streets then they can walk, take urban transit, or drive, like the vast majority of citizens of these cities do.
This guy is a Conservative??!?? He's a freak show and does not deserve to be Calgary's mayor. I looked at the Calgary mayoral candidate list, pretty slim pickins, same as up here in Edmonton. It seems at least half the candidates are even worse than Edmonton's last three mayors, all Liberal or worse. The politicians of our province's two big cities disgust me, for the most part. My old councilor in Edmonton, Karen Principe, was okay but her's was a lonely voice. Only two other councilors on Edmonton's council could even be called remotely conservative in their viewpoint, and of course the mayor was a former Liberal MP. Calgary's council seems little better, and your mayor was even worse than Edmonton's.
Farkas forces his staff to mask? This is not a Conservative person at all, and he's also an idiot. No medical mask stops, reduces, or impedes viruses in any way, shape, or form except to prevent all of a sneeze escaping from a mask wearer. If this happens that mask is now totally contaminated and would have to be immediately removed. Also, if you're sneezing into your own mask, you probably shouldn't be at work if there's some contagion going around. Farkas is not a conservative, no matter how he votes federally. And he supports Naheed Nenshi's policies, sounds downright full-on left-wing to me, and judging by his stupidity regarding masks, Farkas is a full-blown left-wingnut.
It sounds like Sonya Sharp is the closest thing Calgary has to a real conservative running for mayor. She may not be Danielle Smith conservative but beggars can't be choosers, if Sharp has some conservative bonafides, and it seems she does, then she is the person who should be Calgary's next mayor. Sadly, here in Edmonton, we don't have any one as conservative as Sharp is running in our mayoral race. It's a case of holding your nose and trying to decide who's the least odious one of the bunch.
Get rid of him before he starts anything and gains traction.....
