Chelsae go find some other issue that is more important than your personal dislike of e'cigarettes the survey results on vaping overwhelmingly show that vaping is beneficial in aiding people to quit smoking, perhaps you prefer the tobacco industry over vaping!

How about do some research and find out they are worse than cigarettes, and they have a "new" lung disease now from the vapes. You can go by a random survey or actual medical data. Which one do you think is better?.

Wendy McKee's avatar

Bullshit! You watching main stream news? 🤣

Michelle Wright's avatar

Wow, that comment has "educated truth seeker and researcher" all over it.

Wendy McKee's avatar

That’s right, it does. You’ll see.

Michelle Wright's avatar

See what? Someone rambling on about nothing?

I'm already seeing it when you comment.

Perhaps the cigarette lobbyists found someone who will say "vaping bad" "smoking better"! All about the money!!

Petrovic is a Bobble head! Not a RN!

What kind of "health professional " would put forward a bill to stop a product that has helped so many Canadians stop smoking toxic cigarettes!! Was she also behind making vape products so expensive that it is almost the same price as cigarettes?? The Alberta govt has done nothin to cut food prices, cut gas prices, and have increased the cost of vaping. Not what I want from government!

Michelle Wright's avatar

You are the Bobble head. Take some time to research the topic before commenting and showing your ignorance. You will find that vaping is far more deadly than cigarettes and it has caused a new lung disease. Obviously, you're not a "health professional" either. Sheesh, some people can't do anything except complain about what they don't know.

You are the one who needs to do some research. Instead of looking at the news headlines from 10 years ago, look at what came out after that. There are lots of reports about why some people got bubble long.

Short term gain for long term pain! Vaping is far more deadly than smoking. How many of those who used vaping as a modality to quit smoking became addicted to vaping? Unadulterated nicotine, on the other hand, is developing creditability as both an analgesic and a benefit in treating neurological conditions. A misleading, superficial article not worthy of independent news media

Wendy McKee's avatar

What fools you are. Try researching on the right platform rather than main stream news (lies)

I believe that nicotine is not horrible. What is horrible is all the toxins that are added to cigarettes. Vaping is not great either but definitely not as bad as cigarettes. Even our food is filled with toxins. Wouldnt it be great if our govt could ensure that what people put in their bodies is clean and simple?? Instead of increasing the costs so they make more money and Canadians get sick.

WHILE YOU ARE AT IT BAN GLYPHOSATE, BAN GEOENGINEERING/CHEMTRAILS & BAN ALL MRNA TECHNOLOGY!

The UCP is already complaining that nicotine pouches, due to Health Canada (Holland) banning them to be sold in pharmacies only. Complaining about the black market on oral nicotine pouches, and wanting to see them sold in c-stores. The UK has imposed a ban on disposables. The result is a surging black market. The quickest way to surge up illicit supply and demand is through unreasonable bans. If the reason is due to environmental concerns, perhaps increase recycling areas, and urge shops to offer recycling points. Youth vaping is down across Canada. Youth smoking is at all time lows. For many newbie switchers, a disposable vape is a cost-effective way to try vaping as a quit method. Before committing to buy a rechargeable setup. Seems they miss the cigarette sales a little too much. Heaven forbid, vaping is helping people quit smoking.

Why ban vaping and other products, but not cigarettes?Cigarette companies still have lots of leverage.

wanderer's avatar

Exactly! You can be sure the cigarette lobbyists are pushing to make vaping bad because cigarettes are losing money! It is all about the money! Lobbyists will grease a few palms if necessary!

Michelle Wright's avatar

Vaping is far worse than cigarettes and is responsible for a new lung disease and some have already died from it. Thank you for what you are doing. Many are still very ignorant of this, sadly, and complain when someone is trying to save lives. So many uneducated people.

Wendy McKee's avatar

Stop watching the news on tv!!!

Jason Rowley's avatar

I agree that vaping should be banned it is highly addictive and highly toxic to ones health. I STAND WITH DANIELLE SMITH & THE UCP!

Wendy McKee's avatar

And……..cigarettes? What’s your take on them? 🤪😂

Harold's avatar

People by the thousands who have not never smoked before are taking up vaping because they believe it is harmless. Now we have perhaps a million+ people who have never smoked, now addicted to vaping. Banning the vape, or e-cigarette, does not in anyway suggest cigarette smoking is an alternative to vaping.

So I thought banning things that provide a positive outcome like smoking cessation was a liberal/ndp thing! How about doing something useful like declaring our independence from the undemocratically appointed tyrannical federal government we are being forced to live with?

Just saying...

Smoking is bad, but banning smoke is lame and gay, and if you think it’s a good idea, your mother has a dick

I like it, tapes are just tested as fluid but not if it is evaporated with heat. To me, it's healthier to use Tobacco... I actually quit 12 years ago!

I'm sickened everytime I step out of my car to the smell of skunk, only to realize its from 1 or more vapers, worse in the summer.

Banning something has never worked yet, same as taxing the shit out of cigs.People just go underground

It took me 50+ years to finally see the light and quit that destructive habit of chain smoking tobacco and i was not about to replace one addiction with another. 6 years smoke free cold turkey.

It ain't hard, it just requires some backbone.

What these glowing statistics fail to address is the growing number of school children who are vaping, not to quit smoking cigarettes, but as their first-choice drug along with marijuana, which carries all the hazardous health effects of cigarettes and more. If switching from smoking to vaping can help wean individuals off it, then vaping before smoking can lead to the converse. A cursory check online affirms this assertion.

According to a University of Michigan study, 20.5% of youths whose first nicotine product was vaping went on to smoke traditional cigarettes. The study tracked 12- to 15-year-olds from 2013–2014 to 2015–2016. This group was three times more likely to start smoking than those who began with traditional cigarettes.

A separate study found that 27.5% of young people who started using e-cigarettes in 2018 tried combustible cigarettes one year later, compared to only 2.4% of those who had never used e-cigarettes. Among those who had ever used e-cigarettes in 2018, more than 7% became current smokers a year later, compared to fewer than 1% of non-vapers.

A 2024 University of Michigan study noted that adolescents (12–17) who vaped only were 22 times more likely to start smoking, and young adults (18–25) were 11 times more likely.

Marijuana should have been decriminalized but remained illegal for a long time. Legalizing it was seen by many as tacit approval that it is safe, and smoking remains the most common method of consumption.

Despite having a logical argument in favor of banning vaping, such a measure is unlikely given the financial impacts, comparative health risks, and severe political repercussions—not just in the short term. More than 33% of Alberta’s 15- to 19-year-olds vape, creating a significant block of future voters who might punish such policies at the ballot box.

There is only one effective way to combat anything detrimental to society and its individuals, and that is education. In this context, all schools should highlight the destructive effects of drugs on physical and mental health beginning in grades 7 or 8.
