This new technology can be used for good or for bad. The concern comes when the rules and regulations that apply to the general public are of no concern when it comes to building these massive information processing centres. What information are they processing and for whom?
The good would be for processing the information that furthers HUMAN advancement.
The bad would be for human CONTROL.
Are they being built to FREE human potential?
Or are they being built to ENSLAVE humanity in a DIGITAL GULAG?
The government support and rapidity that these centres are going up would suggest something nefarious is afoot. Since when does the government act and support anything that actually benefits society? Everything the government supports has been a negative for decades. It is why we are in the current mess we find ourselves in today. Government acts in it's own self interests not the peoples.
While there may be so.e truth to what you say, from my understanding the Alberta government has taken concerns I to consideration i.e. they must provide their own power source & must have a closed loop system for water & it's to be built away from any city or town. As for it's purposes it can be used for good & bad. My concern as yours is the "bad" part. But I would prefer we have control over the likes of China (who is already a major concern) & other nefarious entities. But the big question is: who is going to keep an eye out for the "bad" guys?
This seems to be carneys main focus. He has done nothing to improve our trade talks with the US. He has done nothing to fast track our housing crisis. He has done nothing to improve our healthcare system. He has done nothing to protect canadian taxpayers from First Nations stealing our property rights. He has done nothing to clean up tent towns and the drug crisis in Canadian cities. He has done nothing to put forward free trade between provinces. He does none of the things he has promised to do before he got into office and yet he is pushing AI sites. This makes me wonder………what is in it for him?
I just read a dissertation from a very distinguished individual on that very point & he says Brookfield has been involved in areas thought to be similar to Blackrock in the states. It's not. Blackrock invests but doesn't own the assets. Brookfield OTOH invests & owns the assets & therefore is able to CONTROL these assets & they have a lot: from real estate to oil pipelines to electricity providers. They are VERY entrenched in our economy & it's all thanks to Carney who, as a civilian, implemented this. It's been in the works for decades. Now he's PM he can pretty much dictate what gets approved & who is involved. Reading this shocked the hell out of me b'cuz we"re definitely in trouble & elected the worst person we could have since he doesn't have vested interest in Canada except to screw up over little by little. It's another reason why he was involved in the WEF. They've taken his ideas & ran with them: a whole new world order!!
Who is going clean up the mess they leave behind when some other method of storage comes around?? Who is paying for cleaning up orphan well sites-taxpayers!!
Like anything new, responsible development is incremental. We hopefully learn from initial implementations, and improve and develop new strategies. This is called progress, and it is up to us to keep those in authority on track. Yes we want to embrace new technologies, but we definitely need to do it with care, and the good of the average Albertan.
I would argue that even with evaporative cooling systems for which southern US data centers use extensively and do use lots of water for cooling, that this water isn’t lost. It just changes its state, from a liquid to a gas. And if you believe in the water cycle that we are taught about in school, this evaporated water just comes down as rain someplace else.
Yes. For AI that is unreliable, not very useful except for harmful effects, and makes everyone dumber and more alienated. Will be useful for surveillance and digital ID.

It seems you are already living too close to a Data Center.
That assumes there’s enough SO2 and NOx in the atmosphere coming from other sources, not evaporative cooling
