Thanks but no thanks. Our youth is indoctrinated enough and there are oodles of other organizations provide the same type of opportunity. We don’t need government to spend our tax dollars on replicating what is available elsewhere. We all know where this will eventually lead.
This is simply political grandstanding and another way for the government to spend money unnecessarily. Canada already has Army Reservists who typically work a few hours a week. The skills imparted can be adjusted to align with specific goals related to the participant’s education. Their commitment can be terminated with 30 days notice. The one caveat is that a reservist could be compelled to participate in an emergency, whether in defense of the country, a natural disaster, or a riot. Nevertheless, the Reserve Force fulfills the functions that Carney is attempting to repackage, and reservists do earn 85 percent of daily military rates, approximately $2,000–$5,000 a year for entry-level positions, based on 10–20 paid days.
What so called Canadians are NOT being told is what the financial cost will be.
