A terrific decision, which is long overdue. This is Canada, not a foreign country. Kudos to those on council who approved this amendment, you need to be applauded for your strength and commitment to our heritage!

7 Cowardly councillors are petrified of being called racist instead of doing their job. How can anyone with a sound mind suggest that flying a foreign flag is unifying and flying Canadian flags are divisive? Based what I have seen the prob is not the flags but the foreign rejects that come to Canada, disrespect our way of life and take all the free stuff. Much of it sent back to their s hole countries in billions of dollars taken out of Canada tax free.

So what about the insane proliferation of the 'rainbow/trans flags that pop up everywhere?

They clearly are not national, provincial, or city flags and don't represent the citizens of Calgary.

Carney might recognize Palestine...so he legitimizes Hamas and the Palestinian flag. This has come to an end in Calgary. About time.

Hamas was declared a terrorist organization. The flag of palestine has been flying since 1948; Hamas did not exist. The Flag has fuck all to do with Hamas, in the same way that our flag has fuck all to do with current party in power- the Liberals.

The Palestinian flag, adopted in 1948. It was designed by the Arab Higher Committee for Palestine, led by Haj Amin al-Husseini, and is based on the 1917 Arab Revolt flag. The Arab Revolt was a rebellion against the Ottoman Empire led by Sharif Hussein bin Ali. It began in June 1916 in Hejaz, Arabia, and aimed to establish an Arab state. The revolt was supported by the British, who promised Arab independence in exchange for military support against the Ottomans.

In my view, the only flags that should be seen upon Canadian soil is the Maple Leaf flag, the Provincial flag, and no others. You allow one foreign Flag into this counrty, you allow all others; you ban one, you ban them all.

History: Did British make good on their promise? No, they did not. This gave rise to the PLO, and thereafter Hamas.

Was it not the Palestinians who refused to accept what was offered and as a result are still stateless?

In 1916, Palestine was taken from the Ottoman Empire and was awarded to England. Step back to 1897 - 1916: (WWI -1914-1918) "The revolt was supported by the British, who promised Arab independence in exchange for military support against the Ottomans." The offer was accepted.

The Palestinians refused an offer from whom? What do the words "Arab independence" mean? England's promise was worth shit.

Back in 1936 The Peel Commission proposed a plan. Rejected in 1938.

Then in 1948 there was the Partition Plan that would establish two state with Jerusalem as the capital of both. It was rejected and when Israel declared statehood that led to war.

In 2000 the Oslo Accords which would again give Palestinian statehood. Rejected.

England didn’t cede control till 1948.

What about not putting up any pride flags as those are divisive as well!

Isn't it strange that they say me declaring christendom, excludes some so it is hate speech, but the lgptqrs flag that doesn't include heterosexuals is not hate speech even though it doesn't include me???

Good 👍 It’s about time people in this country get some guts and push back against this insane woke mentality that allows these kinds of incursions into our country and heritage. Keep up the good work and the push back.

This is not that unusual for cities in Canada to prioritize the flag of Canada ,I fail to understand why people in Canada think flags from other countries have a place on government funded buildings that Canadian tax payers fund.

Thank you for the insight and courage of the 7 councilors and our new major for their commitment to our city and our Canadian Heritage. This will definitely settle down the extreme behavior that we have seen in the past several years in our city. We are a city of diversity and embrace those who love calling Canada their new home - those who respect Canadian law and our Canadian economy.
