So who will be punished?

Steve Westfall's avatar

Exactly. This artical states that the government violated the rights of Canadians but does not report anything about the punishment for doing so. Will there be arrests? Which Canadians will receive reparations for this injustice? Until there are actual consequences, served by actual people, this ruling means nothing.

Indrek Sarapuu's avatar

Agree with both of you.

No one will be punished.

No one.

A strongly worded letter may be issued...

That's it.

Zinnia's avatar

Well said. Now we wait for justice to be served.

Mike Robinson's avatar

Not likely anyone, at least in any meaningful way! Shameful!

Deborah Thompson's avatar

Right! If there are lawsuits and findings against the government, guess who will pay…. “we the people”!!! 😡😡

I'm not any kind of legal expert, but I wonder if a class action suit against the Liberal party and Justin Trudeau, among others, would require any settlement to be paid by the Liberal Party alone. Meaning, the money would have to come from their party fundraising coffers and Canadians at large would not be on the hook, only Liberals and their supporters.

Too bad they can't be sued personally....I'd really love to sock-it to JT.

Nice! But nothing will happen. That's the way it works in communism.

Zinnia's avatar

This is a victory to be celebrated. The time to be angry is over. Nothing worth persuing is ever accomplished without perseverance and wisdom. Now we require justice for the victims.

Justin and Christia would have to pay their own fees. I would be happy to contribute to the lawyer who takes them to court. They need to be made an example of what not to do while governing a country. All scardy pants justin had to do was come out from hiding and speak to them. Instead he cowered at the lake.

The Emergency Act (1985) was being challenged. The Superior Court was asked a question: Was the use of the Emergency Act constitutional? The answer was NO. The Appeals Court was asked the same question; their answer was NO. The ruling gives those who were effected the standing needed to have their subsequent convictions overturned and their losses recovered. Furthermore, the Bank and its employees can now be sued for freezing their Bank Accounts. The rulings paves the way for meaningful consequences ....but

How did we arrive to where we are today?

The Emergency Act (1985) was previously known as the War Measures Act (1914). The Emergency Act (1985) was amended to allow the government to declare emergencies and take extraordinary measures against its own citizens without the same level of oversight as the original War Measures Act. In other words, the ACT was altered so that the politicians could legally commit an act of war against its own citizens. In 1985, who was the PM? Conservative party Leader - Brian Mulroney. September 17, 1984, to June 29, 1993. The Mulroney government held the majority; the Liberals with only 40 seats. The Conservatives are just as corrupt as the Liberals.

As we have all wittnessed first hand, the Emergency Act's existence, even in a dormant state, poses a threat to Canadian's liberty and rights. It's now up to Canadians to demand their MPs repeal the Emergency Act, ensuring it can never be weaponized against them again. Repeal the Emergency ACT, and this Act can never be evoked again.

Thank you to the common sense courts. We have hope yet. Freeland maybe knew what was coming down the pipes.

Watch the Liberal rats start jumping ship like Freeland did.

Kim O'Reilly's avatar

Why would anyone jump ship, the ruling is meaningless unless there are consequences for their actions and there aren't so whoop-de-do! We just spent millions on a meaningless court case and we're happy with a meaningless decision, the true definition of where Canada is at these days.

Gordon W. Stewart's avatar

There will be an election in the near future. Any Liberal MP with an ounce of vision will walk away instead of getting smeared in an election as Canada has become a non desirable place to live for many.

Brookfield is just waiting for enough companies and citizens to become distressed so they can swoop in and buy up the corporations on the brink of bankruptcy for pennies on the dollar. Ban corporations from buying up our Canadian homes. Brookfield go screw over some other country, not ours!

sheila lenton's avatar

Kim O - there is great benefit in this ruling against the Trudeau- Carney government invoking the Emergencies Act at their whim. This allows it to be made clear that there MUST BE specific circumstances present to invoke this act granting government such unlimited powers in the future. That is PROTECTION for us citizen’s rights in the future in Canada.

John deifenbaker's avatar

She jumped ship to follow the money to Ukraine. Billions of Canadians hard earned money sent at the whim of the laurentian parasites. into the bank accounts of the corrupt.

Just Me!'s avatar

Okay, so what's next and who will be held to account, responsible and liable..?

Colleen's avatar

No one in government. It’s a travesty.

Bob Wilkins's avatar

Note to the RCMP it is now your obligation on behalf of the people of Canada to arrest and detain Trudeau and his entire cabinet that did this to the people of Canada. Failure by the RCMP confirms they were involved with this illegal use of the Emergency Measures Act. Yet another reason why Albertans must vote to leave this communist country that I now call Can'tadastan.

Karin Wollis's avatar

Candastan! Exactly!!

Marvin lefebvre's avatar

But what will happen

Nothing

They got what they wanted at the time

Jack Burley's avatar

So that means our Pm Trudo wasn`t supreme as he thought? When will these people pay for their crimes. That is what it is, you know. We would be sitting in a jail, for only doing half of what they get away with. We need them to stop their lying and getting away with it. They MUST b e held accountable. We are!

Mayora's avatar

Thank*♥*You.Thank*♥*You.Thank*♥*You.

Mike Robinson's avatar

Fantastic, and truly the correct decision!

J. Smith's avatar

What consequences to government? Haven't seen any and any attempt at Private Prosecution under Section 504 of the Criminal Code is quickly dismissed by the Offices of Crown Prosecutors at every level as being "not in the Public's best interest". We are being denied justice.

Ruth Bard's avatar

Well, we know where Carney stands, don't we? Expect another truckload of your money and mine to get thrown at this farce. And the Supreme Court might well rule in the govt's favour, since they are in Ottawa's back pocket.

DRM's avatar

If the Conservatives had the stones they'd use your post as a campaign theme.

But, they don't.

Jack Burley's avatar

So, when will Trudo and his cohorts be charged?

Emily's avatar

Fantastic news! Congratulations CCF! And thank you from all Canadians!

Norman Levesque's avatar

Doesn’t matter if they found he did wrong but he’s not punished. That just makes it worse

Wayne Robinson's avatar

SO WHEN DO WE GET RID OF THE PEOPLE THAT WERE AT THE HEAD OF THIS?

Jim Goegebeur's avatar

Incredible. A Canadian court filled with Liberal sycophant Judges, actually makes an proper decision.

Charkate's avatar

Well, that says it!! And Carney, whom we knew all along was really a traitor, wanted accounts shut down.
